12TH INTERACTION STARTED - films about “great people in little towns” to be made by documentary filmmakers from all over the world
Fifteen camp participants, students at film academies from all over the world arrived in Belgrade on Thursday, August 10th which marked the beginning of 12th International Student Film Camp “Interaction 2017”. Students of directing, cinematography, sound design, editing and production met at Belgrade Cultural Center and shortly after the introductory workshop they set off for Western Serbia. Divided into three groups and during their seven-day stay in Čačak, Ivanjica and Užice, the camp participants find the story and make three documentaries on the topic ‘‘Little town – great people’’.
When the shooting is over, the camp participants get together in Požega on August 17th where they edit and finish their films by August 25th. The premiere of the films made at the camp is at Belgrade Cultural Center on August 26, 2017.
The camp is carried out with the support of The Ministry of Culture and Information, Republic of Serbia, Film Center Serbia, City of Čačak, Municipality of Ivanjica and many partners from the public, independent and business sector.
INTERACTION 2017 / AUGUST 10-27
35 young filmmakers from 21 different countries spends the second half of August in Požega during 12th International Student Film Camp Interaction 2017 and 7th International Documentary Masterclass Interdoc 2017 that are organized by the Independent Film Center Filmart. They will take part in making documentary films and attend lectures on creative documentaries.
During the course of Interaction camp from 10th to 27th August, 15 students of directing, cinematography, sound design, editing and production divided into three groups will make three documentary films on the topic ‘‘Little town – great people’’. Firstly, during their 7-day stay in Užice, Ivanjica and Čačak, the participants find their stories and film the footage for their documentaries. When the shooting is over, on 17th August, the participants in all three film crews get together in Požega where 20 participants of Interdoc masterclass join them.
Within the next ten days while the camp participants edit their films, masterclass participants attend lectures on creative documentaries. This year’s masterclass lecturers are the most eminent Serbian filmmakers Dragan Elčić and Mladen Matičević.
Concurrently, during the evening hours, the participants as well as documentary film fans from Požega and nearby towns can see student films as well as documentaries by well-known filmmakers from Serbia. Besides the participants’ films, in the program Interscreen there are also some short documentaries by Vladimir Perović, MladenKovačević and his films Anplagd that has been awarded several times and Flotel Europa, Vladimir Tomić and his documentary that had its premiere and was awarded at 65th Berlin International Film Festival. Tamara von Steiner will present DOKSerbia, the Association of documentary filmmakers of Serbia and on that occasion her documentary film Controindicazione will be screened. The best student documentaries made all around the world this past school year and selected by CILECT – The International Association of Film and Television Schools are in the Interscreen program as well.
In collaboration with MEDIA Desk Serbia, MEDIA Days will be organized on 18th and 19th August for the Interaction camp and masterclass participants as well as the representatives of audiovisual sector, companies, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and professional networks that can help with the Creative Europe program. The audience will learn about the MEDIA subprogram basic information, characteristics of competition procedures that should be followed, cultural policies in Europe and general program goals.
Since last year, Inter | Video | Action has been held simultaneously with Interaction camp and Interdoc masterclass. It is a residency program for video artists from Serbia. This year, the artists Mirjana Boba Stojadinović and Miloš Tomić during their stay in Požega will carry out their video works in collaboration with the camp and masterclass participants as well as the volunteers and representatives of the wider local community.
This year’s Interaction camp starts with the exhibition of the works of Dragana Žarevac and Anica Vučetić that were created during the course of the last year’s residency. The exhibition opens at the Remont Gallery in Belgrade,on Wednesday, 9th August at 8 pm, the evening just before the camp participants arrive in Serbia.
In their free time, the participants will visit Drvengrad and monasteries in the Ovčar-Kablar Gorge. The premiere of the films made during the camp is in Belgrade Cultural Center, on 26th August.
With this project, IFC Filmart tends to promote young filmmakers and encourage development and production of documentary films with students at film schools and give support to cultural diversity and experience exchange among the students of film academies from around world and within multinational film crews.
Until this day, 204 participants from 50 different countries have taken part in the camp, while 78 people from 30 countries have participated in Interdoc masterclass. 41 documentary films have been made and they have been awarded 13 times altogether at the international film festivals so far.
The camp is carried out with the support of The Ministry of Culture and information, Republic of Serbia, Film Center Serbia, City of Čačak and many partners from the public, independent and business sector.
''INTERACTION'' PRESENTED AT EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL PALIĆ
The films made at Interaction over its first 11 years presented the film camp at its best at 24th European Film Festival Palić at Abazija Cinema summer stage on Tuesday, July 18th 2017.
On behalf of the camp organizers, Dejan Petrović – director of the IFC Filmart addressed the audience and the following documentaries were screened shortly afterwards: He-Helium (director: Giuseppe Schettino), Back Portrait (director: Vojin Vasović), Nobody Gives a Damn (director: Wolfram Huke), Bitter Joke (director: Roozbef Kafi), Carousel (director: Luka Popadić) and Adornment (director: Stefan Krasić).
This year's European Film Festival Palić started on July 15 with the screening of Ildikó Enyedi’s Hungarian drama On Body and Soul that won the Golden Bear for best film at the Berlin Film Festival this year. Furthermore, Slavko Štimac was handed Aleksandar Lifka Award by Mira Banjac – President of the Festival’s Council, for his exceptional contribution to the European cinematography.

KAVEH GHAHREMAN, director (Iran)
He studied cinema and got his master degree of cinema from Soureh University in Tehran in 2005 and a master degree of cinema studies from Tehran Art University in 2008. In 2009 he graduated from AFA (Asian film academy) a one month workshop in South Korea- Pusan. He started making short film since 2002 and has made 27 short fiction and documentary film until this day. He has also been a professional TV commercial director and has made more than 200 commercial during past 6 years. Beside filmmaking he also teaching cinema at IYCS (Iran Young Cinema Society) in Tehran. He is now one of the members of board of directors of ISFA (Iranian Short Film Association). He has taken part in numerous film festival and has been awarded for his works.
ANA OPAČIĆ, director (Croatia)
She has graduated film and TV directing at the Arts Academy, University of Split and she is presently in her final year as a Ph.D. student in Skopje, department of culturology. She has taken part in many international projects and workshops. She is involved in organizing two film festivals (video production, film festival selector). She has made about 20 short films, video installations and performances shown at 14 international festivals so far. She has been awarded for her works. She directed her penultimate film “Yellow Umbrella” with the assistance of a film crew comprising members from Great Britain, France, Lithuania and FYR Macedonia. In 2013 she was a jury member at Split Film Festival (International Festival of New Film). From the very same year she has been a permanent member of the artistic council of See a Paris Film Festival. She also took part in Sarajevo Talent Campus. She works as a producer and director of full-length films and series and also writes film reviews for Nova Makedonija (New Macedonia) daily newspaper.
SLAĐANA PETROVIĆ VARAGIĆ, IFC Filmart representative (Serbia)
She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade; art history department. She got her master’s degree at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade in 2014, film and media studies department. She was a director of the Požega Art Gallery, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina and a director of the Cultural Center of Požega. At present, she is a program manager at the Požega Art Gallery. Since 2006 she has been a member and program coordinator for IFC “Filmart”, Požega. From the very same year she has also been a program coordinator for the Independent Student Film Camp “Interaction”. She is the author of several projects – Photo Documents, Idea-(non)realization, Criticism in practice and Inter-video-action (artist-in-residence for video artists). She has been a curator and selector for many group and solo exhibitions of Serbian artits as well as the international ones.
10 YEARS OF ''INTERACTION'', AT BELGRADE DOCUMENTARY AND SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival – 64th edition: Documentary ''Sound of light'' in the competition program, ''Interaction'' camp and ''Interdoc'' masterclass presentation in the program ''Speed Introduction – festivals meet festivals''.
In the competiton program of this year's Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival – 64th edition, documentary film ''Sound of light'' (Anthonia Milcheva, Bulgaria) will be screened on Friday, 31st March 2017 at 19:00 (Americana Hall, Belgrade Youth Center). The film was made at the film camp ''Interaction 2016''.
International Student Film Camp ''Interaction'' and International Documentary Masterclass ''Interdoc'' will be introduced to the audience in the program ''Speed Introduction – festivals meet festivals'' the following day, on Saturday, 1st April at 19:00 (Panel Hall, Belgrade Youth Center).
Taking part in this year's Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival – 64th edition, ''Interaction'' marks its 10th anniversary at this festival. Lots of films made at the film camp ''Interaction'' have been screened from 2007 to 2017 in the competition program of Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival.
The films made at ''Interaction'' have also won some prestigious awards at Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival. At its last year's edition, Stefan Krasić was awarded the Golden Plaque of Belgrade for the best Serbian film in category ''short documentary'' for his film ''Adornment''. In 2009, at 56th Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival, Giuseppe Schettino was awarded the Gold Medal of Belgrade for the best experimental for his film ''HE – Helium''.
ADORNMENT IN DUBAI
Adornment – short documentary by Stefan Krasić made at the film camp Interaction, will be screened in the competition program of Original Narrative – Student Short Film Festival hosted in Dubai.
Adornment, by Stefan Krasić will be screened in the competition program of Student Short Film Festival Original Narrative at the American University in Dubai, on Sunday, March 26th 2017 at 16.30.
It lasts from March 25th – 27th this year and 39 documentaries, short feature and animated movies from all over the world are going to be screened at the festival.
Adornment has won several awards so far, among which there is the Golden Plaque of Belgrade for the best short documentary at the 63rd Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival that took place last year.more info
